A few years after launching Anthropologie’s catalog and website, Michael and team found that their growing assortment was just getting stuck in the warehouse without ever being shown online and missing much of the selling season. They discovered that the culprit was the reliance on spreadsheets to manage a rather complex launch process.
The solution, which they developed over many years, was a single-source-of-the-truth system for product launches, that clarified priorities and responsibilities, provided process transparency, and orchestrated all teams to collaborate effectively.
The functionality that this system provided was so successful that it helped them grow Anthropologie.com to hundreds of millions in sales and high profitability. That same system, the precursor to Sweft, was so successful that it was adopted by all the brands at URBN.
The surprise, after moving on to work for other companies, was learning that other companies lack a similar system and are still relying on manual spreadsheets to manage their product launches. Seeing the pain that this was causing these businesses was the inspiration to create Sweft, with the vision of disrupting the way products are launched so that retailers become more nimble and profitable, and can compete more effectively online.
